Keeping It Simple
Questions You Didn't Know You Had (But We'll Answer Anyway)
"Aren't you too small to handle my content?"
Fun fact: Back in 2003 in my first startup, two cheap Dell servers processed tens of millions of emails daily. Your phone is more powerful than those servers were. Technology has come a long way, we have forgotten to value simplicity.
"But don't you need a complex cloud architecture to be reliable?"
Here's a secret: Most reliability problems come from overcomplicated systems, not simple ones. You know what's reliable? A well-configured dedicated server that does one job well. You know what's not? A 47-microservice architecture where every component needs its own damage control team.
"What about scaling? Won't you hit limits?"
Remember when Instagram had 30 million users with 13 people? We're not saying we'll be Instagram, but we are saying that smart choices beat brute force. When we need more capacity, we'll add it. Not because a capacity planning spreadsheet said so, but because actual users need it.
"So you're against modern technology?"
Not at all! We stand on the shoulders of giants. Cloudflare, Modal, and other amazing services handle pieces of our puzzle. We just don't use technology to show off how clever we are. Every tool has to earn its place by making things better for users.
"What happens when things break?"
Things will break. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. When it happens, we'll:
- Fix it quickly (simple systems are easier to fix)
- Learn from it (maybe we need to rethink that component)
- Be transparent about it (no unexpected service enhancement announcements)
- Make it better (iteration > perfection)
"What happens when you get thousands of users?"
We'll adapt and grow sensibly. Some components might hit their limits - that's fine, we'll rebuild them when needed. We're not afraid to redo things that don't scale, but we won't rebuild everything just because someone on Hacker News said we should. Real usage guides real improvements.
"How do you handle traffic spikes?"
Remember the old days when sites would crash from getting featured somewhere? That was often because they were trying to do everything themselves. We use smart caching and burst handling. When things get busy, we scale up. When they quiet down, we scale down. No drama.
"Don't you want to highlight your AI capabilities?"
deep sigh Yes, we use AI models for transcription and speaker detection. No, we won't put "AI-POWERED" in flashing letters on our homepage. We use AI because it helps solve real problems, not because we're trying to impress potential investors. We're more interested in accurate transcripts than buzzword bingo.
"Isn't newer always better?"
You know what's better than newer? Better. Sometimes that's a bleeding-edge technology, sometimes it's boring old tech that's been running the internet for decades. We choose what works, not what's trendy.
"What about redundancy?"
Instead of having 100 things that can break, we have 10 things that might. Everything important has a backup. Everything necessary has a failover. When something proves too fragile, we rebuild it stronger. Simple doesn't mean simplistic.
"This all sounds... anti-tech for a tech company"
We love technology! We just love it enough to know its limits. The best tech is like good design – when it's done right, you barely notice it's there. We're not here to win architecture awards. We're here to make your content better.
