The upcoming election for Tauranga City Council is probably one of the most important in a generation. The city will be coming off the back of the Commissioners, who, whether you agree or not have moved the city forward.
The city is also considered part of NZ Inc, and has huge issues with growth, and funding growth, while delivering for its citizens. It is a “business” that has a capital value of over 6 billion dollars, with rates expenditure of $291 million, a high debt, with low debt ceiling. All this adds up to delivering for the citizens of Tauranga being a huge challenge.
The city is behind in its infrastructure, doesn’t have enough housing, is facing a cost of living crisis, and probably simply said, we can’t afford ourselves. All of this and living in paradise where we have one of the fastest growing populations in the country.
